Casey Fields training facilities taking shape
At the beginning of 2019, NH Architecture and RWA were engaged by the City of Casey and the Melbourne Football Club to provide new training facilities to the Casey football ground as part of the Casey Fields AFLW Capital Upgrades project.
The build includes a new Strength and Conditioning gym comprising 500sqm of flexible flat floor space and an Indoor Training Facility which features 800sqm of artificial turf to accommodate gameplay drills. These two facilities will be heavily used by both the Melbourne Football Club and Casey Demons Men’s and Women’s teams.
The shape of the building is informed by the Indoor Training Facility where the ceiling ranges from 9M to 12M to allow for the arc of kicking footballs within. At its highest point the building faces the field, where floor to ceiling glazing provides a distinctive backdrop of the grounds for the players training within, whilst also maximising daylight to reduce reliance on artificial lighting. Both zones express the surrounding structural concrete panels to allow hard training drills against its surface. Expressing the structure is highlighted further in the steel portals, that wrap the design together as one, expressed inside and out.
